Photographic Safari Itinerary

This is an itinerary for a 6 day photographic safari in Namibia with African Twilight Safaris.

Day 1:

After your stay at the African Twilight Safaris luxury lodge and had the thrill of the hunt, you will leave for Sossusvlei. This is one of the world’s most striking, well preserved and easily accessible desert landscapes. Sossusvlei is actually a huge pan surrounded by towering sand dunes, reputed to be the highest in the world. Here you can take the most beautiful landscape pictures while enjoying the day in the oldest desert in the world, the Namib Desert. We will enjoy a packed lunch the Namibian way in the dunes or at the Sesriem Canyon and you’ll spend the night at a lodge in the desert.

Day 2:

From Solitaire we drive to the coastal town of Swakopmund. We travel through the Namib Desert and will also cross the well known Tropic of Capricorn. En route you will have the opportunity to experience the desert on a quad bike tour and learn a little more about the spectacular place. We stop for lunch at Dune 7 which is the highest dune in the area. We may even have time to do some shopping in Swakopmund in the afternoon. We’ll overnight at a Hotel where you’ll experiance typical German accommodation and which has a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean.

Day 3:

Today you get to choose between a morning ocean cruise, or for the fisherman, a chance to get their hooks in the water. During the ocean cruise (which is a popular choice) you’ll see dolphins, sea turtles, seals and if your lucky, you might even spot a whale. The area also offers a large variety of seabird species. A fresh seafood lunch will be served while on board in both activities. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure and to take in some of the local sights, do some shopping, walk along the beach or just relax. Dinner is at a popular seafood restaurant.

Day 4:

We leave Swakopmund for Etosha National park in the morning. We’ll spend most of the day driving, but we will stop at some of the popular attractions along the way such as the ancient volcano, the Spitzkoppe. This is a pointed hill that rises 700 meters above the surrounding plain and there are plenty of bushmen art on these big rocks. The area is rich in semi-precious stones and we’ll stop at the local rock market for some shopping so you get to take a little piece of the desert home with you. We will enjoy a packed lunch at one of the many picnic sites along the road. A stop at the African Root Carving shop is always worth the while. We will spend the night at Okaukuejo, one of the camps in the well known Etosha National Park. To visit the illuminated waterhole at night is always full of surprises and memorable moments. This is one of the highlights of the park and here you could see gemsbok, springbok and zebras in large numbers and if you’re lucky, you might even see rhino, elephant or Lion.

Day 5:

You will spend most of the day on a game drive and could see most of the Big Five, as well as a large variety of other species al in their natural habitat. There will be plenty of photo opportunities during the day. We’ll have our lunch at one of the popular waterholes while watching the game on their daily routine. From here we will proceed to the most northern camp in Etosha, called Namatoni, where we will spend the night.

Day 6:

Sadly, all good things come to an end and we will have to leave Namatoni and take the road back to Windhoek for your flight back home again. En route we pass the Hoba Meteorite, the largest single meteorite in the world and weigh in at 60 tons. You will spend the night in Windhoek in order to make sure you are in time for your flight the next day.

Note: If this was not enough for you, you can extend your safari by an additional seven days and travel from Etosha to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. You will go via the Okavango and through the Caprivi Strip to the Chobe National Park in Botswanna on your way to Victoria falls. Here you will see plenty of game and have the opportunity to do some tiger fishing.
